I have spent my life building GEMS with a simple belief: that education has the power to change the course of a child’s life and, in doing so, shape the future of families, communities, and societies.
When GEMS began more than six decades ago, we could not have imagined the scale it would reach. Today, we are one of the world’s largest private K-12 education groups, with schools across countries, curricula and communities, and more than half a million students educated over our history.
But scale was never the destination. What matters is what that scale makes possible.
It means giving families genuine choice - across curricula, learning pathways and educational experiences - so that every child can find an environment to thrive. It means bringing together educational expertise from around the world and sharing what we learn. And it means investing in the people, ideas and opportunities that can make a difference to a child’s education.
Over the years, our students have gone on to study at leading universities around the world, including Oxford and Cambridge, Ivy League and Russell Group institutions, and universities across Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia. But success cannot be measured only by university destinations or examination results.
A GEMS education is about preparing young people for life beyond school - with the knowledge to succeed, the confidence to find their voice, the character to make good choices and the adaptability to navigate an ever-changing world.
That is why we have always believed education should look beyond the classroom.
Academic achievement matters. So do creativity, wellbeing, character, leadership, curiosity, and the ability to work with others. Every child is more than a set of grades, and every child’s journey will be different.
Our educators are at the heart of making that journey possible. Across our schools, teachers and school leaders bring GEMS’ educational philosophy to life every day - knowing their students, challenging them to think, supporting them when they need it and opening their eyes to possibilities they may not yet see for themselves.
And as education evolves, so must we.
Technology and artificial intelligence are changing how children learn and how educators teach. We see enormous potential in that change. Our investment in AI and digital learning is designed to strengthen education - giving educators better insight into how students are progressing, enabling more personalised learning and creating more opportunities for teachers to do what they do best: teach, guide and inspire.
Because while technology can transform how we learn, education will always be about human connection.
It is also about responsibility. Every GEMS school is built around the safety, wellbeing and care of every child entrusted to us. That responsibility sits at the heart of everything we do.
More than 66 years after GEMS began, our ambition remains as strong as it was on day one: to make a meaningful difference through education. We are proud of what GEMS has built, but we are even more focused on what comes next.
The world our students will enter will be different from the one we know today. Our role is to make sure they are ready for it: equipped with knowledge, grounded in values, open to possibility and confident enough to shape the future rather than simply respond to it.
That is the GEMS story. And it is a story that continues to be written by every student, educator, parent and community who is part of our global family.
