KHDA age eligibility 2026-27.
Based on the current KHDA age eligibility requirements (effective for the 2026–27 academic year). Age as of 31 December.

Children applying from overseas are placed by age only in FS1 to Year 2, per KHDA guidelines. Existing students remain on the previous age-cutoff schedule (based on age as of 31 August) for the duration of their enrollment.

Class size policy
Ratios that support learning.
The teacher-student ratio for teaching in FS1 and FS2 is 1:16; in Year 1 to Year 6 it is 1:20; and in Year 7 to Year 8 it is 1:24. GEMS Education retains the right to increase class size when the situation warrants it, such as when students are set by ability for specific subjects. No class will operate with a teacher-student ratio in excess of 1:30. FS1 and FS2 have both a teacher and a teaching assistant in every classroom.

Documents and detail.
Completed online applications will be accepted if accompanied by an application fee of AED 525 (inclusive of VAT). This fee supports the admissions review process and is non-transferable.
The KHDA (Ministry of Education) requires all families to submit the following documents for each child entering education in Dubai. Without these documents, entry for your child may be refused. Applications will not be processed until full documentation and payment of the application fee have been received.
- One copy of the student’s passport
- One copy of both sides of the student’s Emirates ID card (if available)
- Two years of full school reports and any mid-year interim reports (in English)
- Nursery report for Foundation Stage 1 and 2 (if available)
- Learning support / special education reports, where applicable
Attestation guidance
Transfers by region.
Another Emirate in the UAE or any GCC country: School Principal’s signature and school stamp; attestation by the Educational Authority in that Emirate, or by the Ministry of Education in the GCC country.
North America, Western Europe, Australia: School Principal’s signature and school stamp.
Middle East (excluding UAE), South and Central America, Asia, Russia and former Russian states, Eastern Europe, Africa, New Zealand: School Principal’s signature and school stamp; attestation by the Ministry of Education in the country of origin; attestation by the UAE Consulate or Embassy in the origin country, or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the UAE.
The corresponding year group is of vital importance; the Ministry of Education may refuse a child entry if the year group does not correspond with that of the new school.
Understanding each learner
Entrance Assessments.
All students sit an age-related placement assessment to ensure they can access the education on offer at GEMS School of Research and Innovation. Younger children also attend a stay-and-play observation prior to an offer being made.
For applications from overseas, assessments can be completed virtually, allowing students to be assessed remotely before joining the school.
An offer of a place is not based solely on the assessment. Parents should also provide the most recent copy of their child’s school report when submitting an application.
